“26th Taekwondo World Championship”

On May 29 - June 4, 2023, our capital hosted an international sports competition - the World Taekwondo Championship. The World Taekwondo Championship was organized in "Baku Crystal Hall". In this championship, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of the World Taekwondo Federation, male and female athletes who are among the best athletes in the world among adults, the world's strongest taekwondo players competed in 16 weight classes. 140 rating points have been added to the asset of the athlete who will become the world champion. In total, up to 1000 athletes from 145 countries have officially registered and confirmed their participation.

It should be noted that the championship, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the 50th anniversary of the World Taekwondo Federation, was organized under the slogan "Ignite your power". It lasted until June 4.

 949 taekwondo players from 145 countries competed in 16 weight classes at the 26th World Championship.

On May 29, the opening ceremony of the 26th Taekwondo World Championship took place in Baku. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva watched the event.

The head of state and the first lady came to "Baku Crystal Hall" to watch the opening of the Taekwondo World Championship.

First, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva met with Chungwon Chu, President of the World Taekwondo Federation.

Chungwon Chu presented the first lady Mehriban Aliyeva with the 8th degree honorary black belt and certificate.

The head of state and the first lady had a conversation with the president of the World Taekwondo Federation.

Then the opening ceremony of the 26th Taekwondo World Championship was held.

It was followed by a video address by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach. He said that taekwondo has a special place in the Olympic family and wished success to the participants.

 

President of the Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation, Kamaladdin Heydarov, spoke about the popularity and popularization of this type of sport in Azerbaijan.
