Palace of the Shirvanshahs

One of the ancient cities that reflects the rich history of Azerbaijan is the Baku Fortress – Icherisheher. Entering through the Western Gate, your attention is immediately drawn to the grandeur of the minarets and domes of the Shirvanshahs’ Palace. Serving as the residence of the Shirvan rulers, the Shirvanshahs’ Palace held a dominant position within the ancient city. The Shirvanshahs’ state, which existed from the 6th to the 16th century, managed to survive for a thousand years thanks to the wise and just policies of its rulers. It played an invaluable role not only in the development of Shirvan but also in the cultural, socio-economic, and political progress of all Azerbaijan.
